A Scientific Dictionary
Ms. Swapnita Kakati*
August, 2006. A time to remember. In that special month, I came to know about the world’s first Assamese online dictionary in the form of a website. I immediately pasted the website URL in the internet address bar of my PC and clicked….and I was surprised to see the great challenging task of the XOBDO Team …at the same time felt proud to know the commitment towards their mother tongue.
Prior to the knowledge of XOBDO, whenever I searched Google website with a provision for other Indian languages like Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi …I often thought …”Why is our language missing there? What will be the future of our mother tongue?” But the origin of XOBDO with a promise to preserve our mother tongue for the future HI-Tech generations was able to mitigate all my doubts and queries.
Well, I have been associated with XOBDO since 2006 as an active word contributor. Especially I have concentrated on submission of more and more scientific words and their meanings. It would be a great pleasure for me if XOBDO could launch a separate new chapter as “Assamese Scientific Dictionary” (“AXOMIYA BOIGYANIC ABHIDHAAN”) in near future solely for searching the meanings of scientific words in Assamese.
Moreover, it’s a news of great pleasure for all of us that XOBDO is marching ahead with a new project of 16 different languages of the entire North East. Many more are yet to be included though. I like to wish all the best for the same.
Lastly, on the second Birth Anniversary of XOBDO, I wish my heartiest congratulation to the entire team whose active involvement makes it a grand success.
