Prasenjit Khanikar*

‘Mother’ is the person for whom we are able to come to this beautiful world and ‘Mother tongue’ is the way through which we feel and express the sense of happiness, love and sorrows. This effusive attachment compels us to love and respect our mother tongue. But responsibility does not end at this level only.

PrasenjitWe need to think beyond this narrow boundary for the development of our first language. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to XOBDO for its great initiative to nourish moribund Assamese and other North-eastern languages. My heartfelt thanks to the members and editors of XOBDO, especially Bikram M. Baruah, Pallav Saikia, Priyankoo Sarmah, Rupankar Mahanta, Biraj Kumar Kakati, Parth P. Sarmah, Buljit Buragohain, Rupkamal Talukdar and many others (apology to others whose names are not mentioned) who have made this great endeavour a success.

I believe the voluntary contribution of XOBDO will surely make a maiden revolution to the development of the languages of North-east India in the twenty-first century. The ‘Encyclopedic entry’ is a right direction to provide the information of the North-eastern part of India – history, geography, the legendary figures and above all our rich diversified traditions and cultures. The introduction of ‘Fokora Jujona’s, which are rarely used by the young generation, has added an extra mile to XOBDO. I feel honoured and privileged to be a member of ‘Xobdo Xongho’ (the xobdo team).
